Archived post from previous projects before the foundation was "official."
As many of you know, I spend a significant amount of time at the Disabled Rehabilitation Centre Orphanage, in Kathmandu, Nepal. I have been informed that 18+ hour load shedding (power outages) have resumed during the winter months. This leaves the children in darkness, unable to do their homework, or perform basic tasks of daily living.
Tjitske Weersma (of Helping Hands for Smiling Faces) recently spearheaded a campaign to get winter coats for all 62 children of the DRC. Mike and I recently installed a $200 awning for the children to provide a covered area for them to wash their dishes outdoors (to avoid becoming wet and hypothermic in the winter).
I would very much like to raise the $300 it will cost to install 16 solar powered lamps (pictured below) at the orphanage, to see the children through the winter months of darkness. If you are willing to donate change (any small amount counts, we can seriously do this with pocket change, as we only need $300!), please message me, or post here. I'm hoping to Western Union it to them before Christmas, so we can get started on bringing the literal light back into their lives :)
(Devendra will send me photos of the lamps being installed, so you can see where the donations are spent!)
